The marble quarries in the İscehisar district, formerly known as Docimeon, were operated during the ancient Roman period, and the marbles shaped in Sinada (Şuhut) were transported from Antalya to Rome by sea and used in the world-famous Roman structures and works that still exist today. It is known that Afyon White and Afyon Violet marbles were especially preferred in ancient Rome. Today, there are more than 200 working marble and natural stone quarries, around 1000 integrated facilities, medium-scale factories and small workshops in the Afyon region, especially in İscehisar, and approximately 30,000 people benefit from the ecosystem created by this sector. For all these reasons, it is known as the "Marble Capital of Anatolia". Numerous marble statues and works of art extracted from the region in the Afyon City Museum reflect a rich history of approximately 5 thousand years.
